Lincoln College - Environmental Policy

Lincoln College resolves to:

ENERGY - reduce its buildings' carbon dioxide emissions in line with UK government carbon dioxide emissions reduction targets by using resources more efficiently in all of the College's activities.

WATER - review opportunities and implement measures for reducing the use of mains water.

SUSTAINABLE BUILDINGS - ensure that any building projects or refurbishments are environmentally sustainable and will ensure the greatest energy and water efficiency and lowest carbon emissions that are reasonable in the circumstances, taking into consideration such factors as noise and light pollution and habitat degradation. The College is committed to making full use of its existing buildings and, wherever possible when expansion is necessary, to the development of sites within walking or cycling distance of the remainder of the University.

TRAVEL - discourage unnecessary travel and use of private motor transport for travel to and from the College, and encourage the use of public transport and bicycles.

WASTE - review opportunities and implement measures to minimise general and food waste generated by the College and to increase the proportion of waste that is recycled.

SUSTAINABLE PURCHASING - purchase products and services that reduce the College's environmental impacts locally, and globally.

BIODIVERSITY - preserve and, where possible, enhance the wildlife habitats in environments owned by the College, and reduce the College's environmental impacts on biodiversity.

MONITORING - review this Policy annually, and develop appropriate targets under each heading.
