On the 11th June Lincoln graduate student Chris May attempted to break the world record for playing the greatest number of simultaneous games of Scrabble. In order to break the record Chris, who is studying for a DPhil in musicology at Lincoln and is a Clarendon scholar, needed to win 75% of games played. He won 25 games and only lost 3, so although we are waiting for Guinness to confirm that the record, last set in 2007, has been broken, it certainly looks like he managed it! Chris' record attempt was in aid of ARCh, an Oxfordshire charity that assists primary school children who are experiencing reading difficulties.
