On Tuesday 3 December people around the world will participate in #GivingTuesday, a global movement dedicated to giving and volunteering to help others.
This year, our main project for Giving Tuesday is an ambitious plan by Lincoln's Schools Liaison Officer, Katie Osmon, to cycle to 12 different schools in Lincolnshire over 5 days in July 2020. We hope to raise funds for Katie's trip and for Lincoln’s outreach activities to promote access to more isolated schools. We also hope to raise funds for hardship awards to support students so finances are no longer a barrier when deciding which school to attend.
Whilst the College has well-established relationships with many of the state schools in west and central Lincolnshire, those along rural and coastal areas to the east are less likely to have been engaged with through our outreach programme. In fact, of the 12 schools that Katie will be visiting as part of this initative, only 2 have been visited by Lincoln in the past two years; some have never been involved in outreach activity that the College runs in the region. This coastal cycle is a bid to change that and develop our work with state schools who do not have a history of sending students to Oxford. It is vital that we continue to break down barriers to our University.
We hope you will pledge a gift of at least £13 today in honour of each school we hope to visit.
