We are delighted to announce that The Berrow Foundation Building has won the RIBA South Award 2017 and RIBA South Building of the Year 2017.
Designed by Stanton Williams with Rodney Melville and Partners, the building officially opened in 2015 as an extension and restoration of the existing 1905 building. The College now has a new and much-loved MCR, music practice rooms and a refurbished Oakeshott room.
The architectural and contractor team’s “careful reading and continuation of key lines, retention and balancing of existing neo-classical features with contemporary ones, to create an unashamedly contemporary but harmonious response in such close context with older buildings” is described by RIBA as “exceptionally successful and demonstrates what can be achieved if maturely handled”.
We are thrilled that the hard-work and careful design of the building has been recognised by RIBA, and we would like to thank everyone involved for making the project such a success.
